Sarawak Food

Mee Suah (面线 with chicken soup is an auspicious dish in many Foochow family.  Always have it on the 1st day of Chinese New Year due to the implications of longevity.  My mum's mee suah is the best. 


Kampua noodles (干盘面) is one of the most famous and specialties dishes of Sarawak. It seasoned with pork lard, onion oil, garnished with spring onions and char siew. It is a must try.


Sarawak Wanton - Minced pork wrapped in thin, smooth and soft wanton skin.

Sarawak Laksa is a local delicacy that is very popular in the state. My family simply loves the Laksa very much. My parents always remember to give me a few packets of the Sarawak sambal laksa paste. 

This is one of our favourite hometown snacks. Only RM0.60 per piece.

The ingredients for basic gongpia are very simple, comprising of wheat flour, salt, water and dusting with sesame seeds. Using big charcoal stove where the dough are stick to to the wall of the stove.

Everyone says that Bintangor Rojak is the best in Sarawak.  I will agree 2 years ago.  But not now.  It is not as nice as 2 years ago..... Really sad

Three Layer Tea (三色奶茶)is the local favourite drink that you can find throughout Sarawak. It is a unique combination of brown sugar or wheat grass (小麦草), evaporated milk and red tea which is a local specialty at cafes and coffee shops.  If you have never tried the drink, I recommend that you try it and you may just like the drink.

Keropok udang with vegetable acar (pickle).  
 
Sarawak Acar made with cucumber, raw papaya, carrot, chillies, garlic, vinegar, sugar etc.  Put a teaspoon of acar (usually served chilled) on the keropok.  The combination works really well.  It taste sweet and spicy.  
 
This is one of my flavor dish - Sarawak Acar.  One of the Must-Have food during Chinese New Year.
My mum never fail to give me a bunch of these keropok and acar every year.


Midin is a green and curly jungle fern that grows in Sarawak.  Normally stir-fried with garlic, ginger, 
or shrimp paste and chili. The texture remains crunchy when cooked.

My sister and I loves to have this everytime when we are there!
